Another successful Norton Bavant business is proving to be very popular, Sarah Whines from the Middleton area of Norton Bavant is very much into baking Cup Cakes. Read all about Sarah's passion for cooking and how she got into Cup Cakes! To place an order call Scottie on 07525 645728.
Sarah, congratulations on starting up your new venture, tell us the name of your business?
My business is called "Scottie's Amazingly Fabulous Cup Cakes".
How did you come up with the name?
Before I was married my maiden name was Sarah Scott and everyone knows me locally as Scottie, hence the name Scottie's.
I understand you have worked in the industry for quite a while and up until recently you were a familiar face at the Woolpack in Sutton Veny. What gave you the idea of starting up on your own?
I have worked for a number of local pubs for many years including the Angel in Heytesbury and the Lamb in Seend as well as the Woolpack in Sutton Veny. Friends and family, who have sampled my baking, have been going on about me starting up something like this for years. Finally, in 2010 I decided to give it a go!
How long have you been interested in cooking and when did you become a pastry chef?
I have worked for a number of pubs in the area but I guess I have been baking since I was a little girl. I then did a catering course at a finishing school in Malvern and really took to the pastry side of things.

How do you see yourself juggling your business with a busy family life?
It's very difficult as every working mum will tell you but my mum and my husband do help a lot with the children thankfully!
What sort of customers are you looking for? Will you be selling direct to the public or are you looking for business relationships?
I sell to individuals as well as local farm shops and cafes, as an example I supply all the Cup Cakes for East Farm Christmas in Codford during December and also at East Farm's summer event in the middle of June.
Where is your baking HQ? If you're baking from home, how will you reach out to your customers?
I am running everything from home at the moment and will probably continue to do so. This is very much a small homely business where I am doing it for fun as much as anything else - and I just like to bake cakes..!

You can order your Scottie's Amazingly Fabulous Cup Cakes by contacting me on 07525 645728 or by email The minimum order is half a dozen presented in a really nice little box, so great for people to take to a coffee morning with friends or for family get togethers or just for a weekend treat...
"...decorations can be suited to any theme, even cupcake wedding towers..."

What if someone wants something different for a wedding cake or a special birthday cake?
Yes, I have done and can do Cup Cakes for birthdays and a cup cake tower for weddings - so yes, this is an area that's growing. I have a wedding cup cake tower booked for September.
How do you decorate your cakes? Do you offer different flavours?
I only use the best ingredients so real butter icing and free range eggs are used for the sponge - I think you can really tell the difference. At the moment I am just keeping it simple with three flavoured sponges: lemon, chocolate and traditional vanilla. Decorations can be suited to pretty much any theme, obviously during December the themes were all very Christmassy.
Longer term, do you envisage growing the business and perhaps the need for premises on the High Street?
I would never say never but at the moment I am just happy to bake cakes that are pretty exclusive and make them on a small scale for people who live in the local area.
